Cross Country Competition 2018

On the 20th September, 2018 32 athletes from Bohola N.S., travelled to the East Mayo Cross Country Championships in Swinford Golf Course. This included boys’ and girls’ teams from the 3rd & 4th class and 5th & 6th class. We had great success and the athletes returned with plenty of silverware! Sarah Carney came 2nd in her race, the girls’ team from 3rd & 4th class and the boys’ team from 5th and 6th also qualified to compete in the Mayo Finals in Beleek in Ballina.

The children travelled to Beleek on the 27th of September. An outstanding performance was put in by each one of the girls in 3rd & 4th class with Kate Byrne narrowly missing out on qualifying for the Connachts. The boys’ team from 5th & 6th also gave it their all and left nothing in the tank but unfortunately didn’t qualify. Sarah Carney ran a superb race and finished in 3rd place, qualifying for the Connachts for the third year in a row!

The Connacht Finals were held on Saturday the 13th of October in the Bushfield grounds, Ballaun, Loughrea. It was a most inclement day with torrential downpours throughout, but nothing could dampen the enthusiasm of Sarah Carney. Sarah had to run a distance of 1200m and compete against 103 athletes from all corners of Connacht. Sarah got off to a fantastic start leading her group from start to finish and stormed home in first place to claim Gold! It was an exhilarating race to watch and an outstanding performance from a very promising athlete. Well done Sarah!
